In short
In an office move there is almost always furniture that does not suit the new office. Decide early: what moves, what is sold or donated, and what is cleared. That way you do not move unnecessary furniture, do not pay to move it, and do not leave the old office full when the lease ends.
First: what moves and what does not
- Go through the new office plan and check what fits.
- Mark every item: moving, sold, donated or cleared.
- Desks and chairs in good condition are usually worth moving. Old cabinets and partitions that do not suit the new space are better left behind.
Selling
Office furniture in good condition, such as ergonomic chairs, electric desks and metal cabinets, can be sold to used office furniture dealers. Start a few weeks before the move, because arranging collection takes time.
Donating
Non-profits, schools and community centres are sometimes happy to receive desks, chairs and cabinets. Check in advance what they need and how they collect, and arrange collection before moving day.
Clearing
Whatever is not sold or donated is cleared. We clear old furniture as part of the office move, on moving day or right after it, so you hand back the old office empty.
When to deal with it
Ideally a month before the move. When you know in advance what is not moving, the number of trucks and the crew can be planned correctly, and the old office can be handed back on time.
Computers and electronics
Old computers, monitors and printers are not thrown away with the furniture. The IT team wipes the data, and the equipment goes to electronic recycling through a licensed handler.
