In short
Analytical instruments are expensive and sensitive to shock, tilting and liquids left inside. Preparation follows the manufacturer's instructions and is done by the manufacturer's engineer or the lab team: draining and flushing, removing columns, and for a mass spectrometer, venting the vacuum. We pack, move on air-ride trucks and place.
Why preparation matters
These instruments contain delicate pumps, sensors and vacuum systems. Liquid left in the lines can leak, an unsecured pump can be damaged, and a tilted instrument can lose calibration. Each instrument is prepared according to its manufacturer's instructions.
HPLC
- Drain solvents and flush the system per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Remove the columns, cap them and pack them separately.
- Separate the modules and pack each one individually.
- Label tubing and connections for fast reassembly.
Mass spectrometer
- Venting and shutdown are done by the manufacturer's engineer.
- Pumps and the source are secured per the manufacturer's instructions.
- The instrument travels upright, packed and padded, with no tilting.
- Restart and calibration are done by the manufacturer's engineer.
Gas chromatograph
- Close and disconnect gas cylinders. Cylinders travel separately, according to the rules.
- Remove or secure the column in the oven.
- Detach the autosampler and pack it separately.
On moving day
Each instrument is packed with fitted padding, loaded upright and strapped, and the truck travels with air-ride suspension on a planned route. At the new site we place everything per the room plan, and the lab team or the manufacturer's engineer connects and calibrates, under the customer's responsibility.

- Moving an electron microscope: what to knowHow to relocate an electron microscope: work with the manufacturer's engineer, secure the column, move without vibration and prepare the new room.
- Moving an optical table without losing levelHow to move an optical table: remove components, lock the isolators, lift a heavy top, plan narrow openings and re-level at the new site.
