In short
The Weizmann Institute of Science is one of our clients, and our base is in Rehovot, a few minutes from the campus. Most moves at the institute happen on campus: a research group moving to a new building, a lab moving to another floor, or new equipment arriving from a supplier. The distance is short, but the planning is the same as for a move between cities: an equipment list, a moving order, access and elevator coordination, and a cold chain for samples.
What is special about a campus move
A large campus has vehicle access control, pedestrian paths and buildings with service elevators of different sizes. So before the move we check where the truck enters and stops, which elevator each instrument takes, and how to get from the old building to the new one without rolling sensitive equipment over uneven ground.
What to coordinate in advance
- Entry permits for the truck and the crew, according to campus procedures.
- A service elevator in both buildings for the moving hours.
- A plan of the new lab, with a place for every instrument and bench.
- Chemicals and hazardous materials move separately, through a licensed handler and according to the safety officer's instructions.
Freezers, incubators and samples
−80 °C freezers and incubators move empty and upright. Samples go to a backup first: a spare freezer, dry ice or a portable freezer, and return only after the freezer in the new building is back at temperature. On campus, this usually takes hours rather than days.
Recommended order of work
- Furniture, consumables and archives first.
- Then instruments that can be stopped for a few days.
- Critical instruments last, once the new lab is ready to receive them.
- At every stage the lab manager approves what moves and when.
Customer responsibilities
Disconnecting and connecting gas, water and power, instrument calibration and biosafety cabinet certification are done by the customer's technicians or contractors. If needed, we are happy to refer you to a qualified technician we know.
